The story takes place during a nuclear war, a plane carrying a group of boys. Unfortunately, the plane was attacked by a forced and landing on a Pacific coral island. These children were temporarily absent from the civilized world. There were no adults, no supplies, in order to survive they have to depend on themselves First, the central figure in this book is Ralph, he is on behalf of civilization and intellect. His father is the naval officer and this imply Ralph has a well education, and that is the reason why Ralph has idea of " Be saved "since he land on the island. As Ralph say: We can't let have everybody talking at once, we'll have to have ' Hands up' like at school.( William, P39) From this sentence, we can know that the conch not only represent the order, the symbol of power and also represent democratic governance and reason. With the moving of time, it is also an essential tool to gather everyone around to hold an meeting. We can also say that conch is a symbol of civilized life on the island. By the time moving on, with the leading of Roger and Jack, more and more children disobey Ralph. Jack consider they don't need ralph as a leader, they should abandon the past rules, that's why he say “Bollocks to the rules! We are wrong-we hunt!"( William, P123) This behavior make this small group separate from each other. Jack led his orchestral and rest of the children hunting, they even use a sharp wood stick impale prey's head, this indicate the children that follow jack start to become brutal. At the end of the book, Roger used the big rock to smash the conch
