In the beginning of Lord Of The Flies, Ralph pulls the conch out of the water. “Ralph used one hand as a fulcrum and pressed down with the other till the shell rose” (19). Ralph is the most focused on making a safe place for the boys to live and making it off the island. Ralph finding the conch shows how he will trying to bring order and organization to the island. The conch represents order, and organization. If somebody wants to talk they have to “hold the [conch] when [they’re] speaking” (45). This shows how the conch symbolizes order because it helps them to have a system to keep their meetings organized.
