In William Golding’s Novel, Lord of The Flies, a group of boys end up in a plane crash onto a deserted island. Their first instinct was to build a signal fire. This fire begins as a signal of safety and survival, but as the tides turn the symbol shifts into a meaning of fear and a lack of hope. When the boys landed upon the shore, their first instinct was to group up and find wood for a signal fire. True leadership is represented by standing up for the greater good of a group without selfishness and ignorance towards others. The story The Lord of The Flies by William Golding demonstrates a constant struggle for power and leadership between Jack, Piggy, and Ralph. The malicious actions that result draw out specific aspects of leadership from each boy. Apart from Jack and his aggressive attitude toward others or Piggy with the lack of respect he receives from the others, Ralph 's rational thinking is the trait, that as a leader, trumps the others and clearly shows how his endless efforts for the greater good of the boys make him the distinct leader.…

In the book Lord of the Flies, one of the main characters Ralph is elected to be the leader. Throughout the course of his leadership, he demonstrates many great qualities such as self-sacrifice (sacrifice of one's interests, desires, etc., as for duty or the good of another). An example of this is in chapter 6 when the boys go to castle rock to try and find the beast. During this chapter Ralph volunteers to go in first into the cave even though he could be killed by the beast. Not only is Ralph being a good person but, he’s being a great leader by putting the safety of his group before his own…

It also shows leadership because here Ralph is thinking about the whole group of kids and not only himself. He could just sit down and boss people around but he decides to try to signal people so the whole group can be rescued. Another example of how Ralph grew to become a more responsible and group-centered leader is in this passage. It's the end of the novel and many of the boys have died, including Piggy. Jack and his clique have gone completely savage and are plotting Ralph's murder.…

The first reasons why the boy’s are breaking down, is that Ralph in the beginning, wasn’t giving the tribe boys enough positive reinforcement; because if this necessity is given to the tribe members, then the boys will internally feel much motivated with their work towards their tribe. In the allegory Lord of the Flies, Ralph is known as a respectful and well going leader, however what he lacks is the responsibility to keep all the boys in the tribe feel more positive due to their survival efforts. Consequently, Ralph as the leader of the group lacks some necessary qualities as a reinforcer, Jack on the other hand displayed many negative reinforcement towards the tribe; for example, arguing with Ralph with the whole leader meeting was negative…

In Lord of the Flies by William Golding the leader is Ralph, and I also agree with the author with this choice. If I had to follow a character in this book it would most definitely be Ralph for multiple reasons and my reasons are based off my past experience at school and in sports. Ralph is a great leader because he sees the big picture or the ending destination for that particular goal and how to accomplish it. Ralph in the story sees that task at hand as processes not only in his head what has to be done but also is vocal to others in the story about what has happened and what needs to happen to fix it.…

In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the character that I would’ve chosen to follow would’ve been Ralph. Ralph exemplifies good leadership skills throughout the book. He is able to make lawful decisions that benefit the others while maintaining his focus on getting rescued off the island. Although most of the boys on the island decided that following Jack was a better way to go, Ralph still proved he was the better leader. Goulding chose Ralph to be the leader in the beginning of the book because Ralph didn’t think like most of the other boys did on the island.…

Jack felt that he was better suited for the role as the chief so he explained to the boys why Ralph was not a successful leader. Jack diminished the power that Ralph had in order to satisfy his craving for control. He used his capabilities, talents, and carefree attitude to obtain power and take the away the control that Ralph had achieved at the beginning of the book. After his speech, Jack seemed like a better fit for the position of chief which caused the many boys in Ralph’s tribe to side with Jack. Jack’s persuasion allowed him to become the chief of a new tribe that he created on the other side of the island away from Ralph’s now impuissant group.…
