Raisin In A Son Reflection

Decent Essays
This week in school we learned about an interesting book called A raisin in a son. One assignment I am doing well in is the A raisin in a son packet. I think I will be able to improve my grade in Math class because I retook the test to see If I will get a better grade. If I were watching myself in my Math class I would keep doing the same thing I am doing but try to complete my Khan academy more and also try to not get off task. One thing that helped me push myself was to get my grade up so I can have more time to do whatever I want in my house and to spend more time with my friends and parents.

The class I struggle with the most is English class because I don't complete assignments and when Ms. DeVries was our teacher for our English class

It wasn't just that I didn't know things - didn't know how to simplify algebraic fractions, couldn't identify different kinds of clauses, bungled Spanish translations - but that I had developed various faulty and inadequate ways of doing algebra and making sense of Spanish. Worse yet, the years of defensive tuning out in elementary school had given me a way to escape quickly while seeming at least half alert. During my time in Voc. Ed., I developed further into a mediocre student and a somnambulant problem solver, and that affected the subjects I did have the wherewithal to handle: I detested Shakespeare; I got bored with history. My attention flitted here and there.…

In A Raisin in the sun, Lorraine Hansberry uses an allusion to compare Walter Lee to the mythical Prometheus (856). George called Walter Lee “Prometheus” because, “Prometheus" fits Walter's passionate temperament. Prometheus was a Greek God from ancient Greek Myths who did not fight the Olympians. Prometheus was one of the two men who were not locked under the earth and the two men were given jobs. Prometheus started to think of using his job as revenge against the Olympians, because although he was not imprisoned under the earth with the rest of his kind he was still imprisoned in some sort of way.…

The movie, A Raisin in The Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, is more amusing because emotions were further developed in the movie. Someone once said, “Never judge a book by its movie.” However, a book can judge its movie. If a reader reads a book then watches a movie they may think that the book will be worse. After watching the movie, the director gave each character’s emotions more amusing.…

Literary Analysis Essay Cultural identity in America is often specified as the behaviors and beliefs, or characteristics of a person based on his or her ethnic or age group. In the play “Raisin in the Sun”, a character named Beneatha plays a young well-educated woman that is viewed as self-centered, obnoxious, and expensive. On the first day of school, I remember walking into class and seeing all of the new people in my class. I also remember meeting all of my new teachers. I had no idea how much that I would learn, and I had no idea how much I would struggle to learn the new material. One particular class that I feel that I have learned a lot in is WHAP. WHAP stands for world history AP.…

One of the main literacy sponsors growing up was my mom. She was a three grade teacher until I was born. As I grew up she made sure I was reading a book and not wasting all my time watching tv. When I was still learning how to read chapter books my mom would sit on the couch with me and read for at least forty minutes every day so that I grew my read and vocabulary skills. On car rides, weather it was long or short, or if I was just sitting at the baseball field watching my brother play she always made me bring a book with me.…

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite,” speculates Nelson Mandela. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a fictional novel about racism and discrimination. In everyday life one is faced with challenges, for students have a constant battle because they are going through the same occurrences week after week. This year being junior year the most challenging would have to be AP language. This is the case because being in an ap class was not an aspect I was accustomed to. Act 2, Scene 2 of A Raisin in the Sun, has many important plot points and resolved conflicts as well as new conflicts. The differences in beliefs between Beneatha and George are further defined and we see Mama beginning to share the same beliefs as Beneatha. For example, Beneatha believes that knowledge is what affects society and how well one knows their heritage while George believes wealth and social status is most important. Also, George sees education as an assistance to getting a job while Beneatha believes in education as a road to achieving one’s goals. Later in the scene, we meet a new character, Mrs. Johnson, who brings the Youngers a newspaper that tells of a bombing of a black family’s home in an all-white neighborhood.…

Essay One Growing up in a small farm town that was more interested in goofing off and just working, didn’t really prepare me for college. Being exposed to several different learning environments since graduating high school, I would definitely have to say it was a rude awaking for me when the military got a hold me and put be through their training environment for new recruits. That being said though, attending a University at a later age and having been exposed to two different ways of educational regiments I am more prepared now than before. School work was considered a joke for most of students growing up and if attendance wasn’t a requirement most of us probably would have never shown up for homeroom.…

Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…
