Imagine working a full time job at minimum and just barely making through the week with nothing left and nothing to show for it. On the side now image being a business owner just making it and trying to make jobs for people but now have to close due to the fact you can’t pay your employees now. Cost of living is now more expensive than it ever has been before, so to compensate that minimum wage is being raised. Minimum wage goes all the way back to King Edward III but in United States it was not established until 1938 at twenty-five cents an hour and was ruled on by Supreme Court in 1941 (Aliprandini). Majority of smaller business owners have a business to give themselves a job, so this means their profits are slim and they need to careful on expenses such as payroll. Generally people who work at small business tend to make minimum wage or just above minimum wage depending on their experience and how long they have worked there. There are 1.7 million workers that earn minimum wage. Most people who make minimum wage are younger generally under twenty-five years old (Driscoll). If minimum wage were to increase, payroll would increase severally for small business owners. Not only would the people who make minimum wage get an increase in pay, but also people who make just above minimum wage to compensate for it (Jacobs). Think if you were making eight dollars a hour and some else made minimum wage at seven dollars and fity cents and minimum wage increased to eight now you both make the same amount would it be fair to you. No it would not be fair so to make up for it you would also get raise. Now this puts some serious strain on small business owners to make up for the huge increase in pay. To make up for the increase in pay they would have to raise their prices on their goods or their services (Ford). For those who make minimum wage the increase in pay with really help them. Now for those who don 't make minimum wage or those who will not see an increase in pay will see the worst of it because prices of goods and services will be more expensive than before. If increasing minimum wage means less people need federal help which will make taxes to be lower then this will be major help to everyone (No decent living). This is because taxes come out of everyone checks so if less come out because taxes are cut that basically means everyone gets a raise in a sense. There are usually two general groups of people. One is republican which think minimum wage should stay as it is or slowly raise it over extend amount of time. They believe in that anyone can make a living by hard work and determination. Now the other group of people are democrat which they think minimum wage should be raised right now to a much higher pay. They believe that everyone should be equal and have the same opportunities no matter at what cost (Driscoll).
