Rainsford Vs. Doodle Compare And Contrast

After reading the short stories of The Scarlet Ibis and The Most Dangerous Game, the characters of Rainsford and Doodle caught my eye. They have many things that are different from one another as well as many thing that are opposite each other in these stories in so many ways. At first, while reading the stories, one would not instantly realize that these characters would have so many differences, but they do. After analyzing this essay thoroughly, one may realize some of the many differences between Rainsford and Doodle are age, intelligence, and strength.

The first topic of discussion would be the difference in age of these two characters. They have an enormous age difference. Doodle, at the young age of five, has not experienced many things in his life because he is so young and inexperienced. Also because he cant move around efficiently throughout most of the story because he does not know how to walk until his brother shows him how to. An example would be from page 132: "When Doodle was five years old...". As you can see this demonstrates his inability to experience things that an adult would at his young age. He did not know how to hunt, he couldn't walk due to his disabilities until his

Rainsford, whom which is older and much more experienced in the ways of the world, has accomplished many things "it is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter to my home"(31). This shows that he is a well known hunter and people look up to and respect him. Doodle did not get that chance to fulfill his dreams or live out his life like Rainsford though. Doodle also was five so he did not hunt, walk, or explore like Rainsford did so that shows that Rainsford is older and experienced in things such as hunting and making a name for himself among his
