Salt and pepper both used for seasoning but have very different tastes. This is an analogy I would use to describe Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. In the duration of the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, both are portrayed a impeccable hunters, but, as the story proceeds the separation the two hunters unfolds. Although they bear some mutual similarities, the difference between Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff are quite pronounced; differences such as their age, where there from, personality, and their style of hunting. Starting off, Zaroff is an older man who is an ex militant from Russia, while Rainsford, a young man who was also in the military, is from America. Some example from the book include: He was a tall man past middle age, for his hair was a vivid white; (page 5) "He is a Cossack," said the general, and his smile showed red lips and pointed teeth. "So am I." (page 5) You are much younger than I am, Mr. Rainsford,

First, throughout the whole story Zaroff can be characterized as confident. The first reason he can be called confident is that he gives his prey a three-hour head start. Zaroff says, “I give him a three hours’ start. ”(Connell 50). The main trait to describe General Zaroff and is unfair. For example, “One almost did win. I eventually had to use the dogs” (26). Rainsford is a man of logic and reason. His clever actions and resourcefulness while Zaroff’s guest on Ship-Trap island prove my argument. Rainsford is a hunter and a rather talented and well known one to say the least. He has outsmarted his prey time and time again, and he has separated himself from most mediocre hunters that are competing with him for recognition. Furthermore, Whitney tells Rainsford that he’s seen him hit a moose in the dark four-hundred yards away.…

Rainsford is able to survive because he has a lot of good idiosyncrasy which in turn helps him survive in the story “The Most Dangerous Game.” He was a very intelligent man. He showed a lot of courage in this story . “The revolver pointed as ridgeley as if he was a statue” (p.43 Conell). This shows a lot of courage because he had a gun pointed right at his chest and he just stood there like nothing was happening.…

Zaroff, just like Rainsford, has plenty of wealth, but again he lavishes in his luxury. He owns a mansion: eats all of the finest foods, “They were eating borsch” ; and dresses in the most demur fashion, “Ivan laid out an evening suit [...]” (Connell 6). All of these are traits demonstrate Zaroff’s civility, but readers soon find they only mask his…

Being determined means to have willpower. Which is a necessity during a live or die situation. Much like the circumstances the characters from “The Most Dangerous Game” and “Escape from Afghanistan” were put in. In the “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Sanger Rainsford’s determination and skills is what keeps him alive throughout the story. Similarly in the autobiography “Escape from Afghanistan” Farah Ahmedi’s determination and strength gets her mother and her to Pakistan safely.…

‘To date I have not lost,’ he said.” (11). General Zaroff’s words create suspense because he tells Rainsford that he is very skilled at hunting humans. This makes the audience feel perturbed for Rainsford because he is going up against a zealous, blood-thirsty hunter. The moral conflicts between Rainsford and General Zaroff are also very effective and help build suspense in the…

Nevertheless, his pride and lifestyle has made a killer out of him and with it all sense of humanity. The thing that got my attention about General Zaroff is his complex personality and his superficial charm. He appears like a cultivated and legitimate noble man when he welcomes Rainsford with food and "held out his hand to welcome Rainsford", yet when he starts to recount his story you discover how ruthless his personality is. He uses the island to take wrecked travelers into his house to encourage them and give them a place to…

In today’s world, many people get involved in activities that make them happy, but for one man, this enterprise not only gives the man pleasure, but ends the life of another human. In the story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, General Zaroff, the antagonist, is a cold, heartless man who couldn’t care less about anyone or anything but his hunting and own joy. General Zaroff spent his life hunting and killing, but when the thrill of killing an animal was nowhere to be found, he turned to killing men, and from there General Zaroff became a cold and heartless murderer. “I hunt the scum of the earth-sailors from tramp ships-lascars, blacks, chinese, whites, mongrels…”(Connell 225).
