Commercials can attract a person’s attention with a plethora of devices such as a catchy jingle, flashy pictures, and an upbeat intro with a memorable slogan ( i.e. “Shamwow!”). In Wells Fargo’s “Learning Sign Language” a lesbian couple is seen practicing sign-language, incorporating into their daily routines. This commercial started out with a little girl pulling pedals off of a flower while counting to ten. Then the little girl looked up and the camera zooms in on her eye until the screen goes black and the camera then counts down from ten and you hear and see the sound and vision of an atomic bomb blowing up. After that it moves to President Johnson’s voice, high over the image, saying, “These are the stakes—to make a world in which all of God’s children can live, or go into the dark. We must either lover each other or we must die.”…

We use a chi-square goodness of fitness test when we have one categorical variable from a single population, and wish to determine if the sample data is consistent with a hypothesized distribution. For an example, Skittles company claim that these candies are equally distributed among 5 colors. To test this theory we would randomly select a sample package of 500 Skittles. This candy comes in 5 different colors (purple, yellow, green, orange, and red). We determined that 135 were purple,122 were yellow,73 were green, 57 were orange, and 113 were red.…

Sprite’s “Obey Your Thirst” advertisement centers the hand drawn faces of hip-hop legends Missy Elliot, 2Pac, and J. Cole above the tag “3 Legends; 16 Lyrics,” written in green. Beneath these legends faces are also three cans of Sprite with the musician’s lyrics written in bold letters across the cans. What interest me the most about this ad is the chosen people to represent this campaign, J Cole, Tupac, and Missy Elliot, are all leaders of the hip-hop community. The visuals are amazing and makes the art style, not the product, the focus of the ad. The green helps make this image seem peaceful and calm, which might have been a goal for Sprite to help market their products.…

The song of choice was “Hey Brother” to enforce that family feeling and show the “Brotherly Love.” The music is played throughout the commercial starting off slow and hitting the high point of the song at the climax of the commercial to get to a person’s ethos and pathos. The precise point the company climaxes the scene on the screen and the music being played is at the exact spot they are to get the most powerful, emotional feelings they can out of a person. The songs lyrics talk about there being nothing they wouldn 't do for their brother and that is what is seen in the commercial. When the commercial nears the end and it is perceived as the younger of the two brothers is going to be robbed of his coke; the older brother comes in and risk having to fight three kids or doing anything for his brother to get his Coke back.…
