He wanted to write a novel which gay teens need and want to read. He wanted his message to them to be, “It’s okay to be who you are”. He thinks he will feel better if he had this book when he was a high school student. Alex was writing the novel, Rainbow Boys, when he struggled with the issue of coming out. After Rainbow Boys, he wrote many award-winning novels include Rainbow High (2003), So hard to Say (2005), Getting It (2006) and The God Bow(2007). The story of Rainbow Boys centers on gay high school students, so it is very beneficial for LGBTQ students, specifically for gays and questioning who are having a difficult time in school. It would be useful resource and can provide positive empowerment to them. No matter if the reader is simply interested in the issue of gay teens or for some other reason, this book is suitable for everyone to read. I highly recommend Rainbow Boys for everyone. It is a humorous book which directly presents what problems gay high school students face in school. It helps people know more about how to support for their LGBTQ

Being in love is always a new world. Sex is not really an issue in the story, rather fascination of a more basic, even religious, kind. The meeting with that living God who is the ultimate, beautiful and sinister, its secrets never to be fully fathomed, the unique confrontation with love. The homosexual theme becomes an illustration of the impossibility of that ecstatic love of youth to last. Reading the story as a gay manifesto would only reduce Sebastian's and Charles's experience into a subculture dilemma, or even worse, something political.…
