Hosseini makes us perceive Rahim Khan as an old, dying man just trying to give Hassan’s son, Sohrab, a better life than the one he currently is living. However, we also see Rahim as this faithful father-like figure in Amir’s life which adds to his complexity. Rahim Khan in this passage, seems to consistently present himself as this old, dying man. When Hosseini writes, “A coughing fit gripped Rahim Khan… when he stopped he looked older... like he was aging with each coughing fit.” it adds to the character of Rahim
