In Allstate, the main database software they used was Oracle, so that was a requirement Raghav needed to have before he was hired. Database administrators also need to possess a few traits that will help them succeed in the field. People who work with database construction and management must possess the ability to adapt. New database softwares come out everyday and these database administrators have to be able to adapt to what’s popular and most efficient at any given time. This goes hand in hand with the next trait database administrators must possess, which is the constant eagerness to learn. Allstate provided him fantastic flexibility because the corporation gave him the liberty to work from home or telecommute. However, when he went to work, he was normally at the office from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. So it can be categorized as what society would label a “9 to 5 job”. Database administration is completely application based so these data teams are constantly working on new projects and database blueprints. Due to this, Raghav drew a comparison between science labs that high school students complete to his everyday work. The teamwork and application of concepts that are required for science labs are required for database teams. A typical work day for Raghav at Allstate is to get to work and immediately go to the computer lab. His specific team had a set schedule on how to accomplish their work. From the time the team got to work, until noon, they would work on database blueprints for new and improved prototypes the company could use. Then after a short lunch break, the team would write a report on the state of the current database software at use and report any bugs or deficiencies present. The rest of the time at the office would be dedicated to actually structuring the database the team blueprinted in the morning, or going over security checks in the current
