Raffaelo di Giovanni Santi, artist of “The Alba Madonna”, started off following his father's footsteps. Unfortunately when Santi was eleven years old his father passed away. But at such a young age Santi’s paintings had always been well presented. He moved to Florence in 1504, following his passion for art. In Florence he followed some of the artist he had studied before, Leonardo and Michelangelo. In 1508, the Pope called him to Rome, where he remained for the next twelve years. There he produced frescoes (a painting done rapidly in watercolor on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling) for the Sistine Chapel and scenes from mythological stories.
