This quote defines what a good leader is in his eyes but a different for many. For example, Rafael Trujillo fit John’s criteria of what is a good leader but many people may disagree. In Biography it shows the life of Dictator Rafael Trujillo. Rafael Trujillo was a dictator of Dominican Republic from 1930 till his assassination in 1961. Trujillo committed many injustices to reach his powerful position and mistreated many people. In Animals Unite! However Major reached his powerful position by being charismatic and wanting to help others not himself. Both are considered leaders but which one is a good leader? Rafael came from Haitian, Spanish, and Dominican descents. In Biography it claims that during his teenage years, Rafael began breaking the law but gave it all up once he became a father. At age 25, he began working in a sugar plantation but was eager for more. When the U.S marines presented him the chance to become the country’s first municipal police force, he took the offer. He soon began climbing up the ranks. By 1925, he had obtained the commander-in-chief title. In the 1930s, he had declared that he was going to be a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections. However, the opposing candidate’s supporters were being tortured and murdered by Trujillo’s secret police force. Soon after, the capital Santo Domingo was hit by a hurricane. In Biography it mentions that Trujillo used this as his advantage by imposing military law and more taxes. Although he caused harm he did help the country, Trujillo modernized the city and even improved Dominican Republic’s economy. Trujillo began to mistreat Haitians causing the Parsley Massacre, in which he killed an estimated amount of 20,000 Haitians. He forcefully stayed in power until his assassination in 1961.
