Karma is defined as the doctrine that the good and bad acts have inevitable consequences in this and future lives. In the story of Radish and Lady Leek Stem, we karma in action. Radish entrusted Lady Leek Stem, his mother, with money to give to monks who came to the door to beg. Since she did not give money to the monks, she lied to him when he returned. As a result of her lie, instead of reaching salvation, when she died she went straight to hell, where she suffered terrible torments (such as being nailed to a bed). By this time, Radish had become a saint, and went to hell to save her. After speaking to the King of Hell, who tried to discourage Radish from saving his mother, Radish called upon the officials of hell. He was able to his magic
