Growing up in a small town in rural India in a family of doctors I was exposed to the field of medicine early in life. I and my twin brother loved to accompany my father to his clinic, where we spent hours looking at the fascinating world beneath the lens of the microscope. My resolve to work in a medical profession only grew through my undergraduate years, and so I worked tenaciously to get into one of the best medical schools in India.
Exposure to the field of radiology came while I was working as a primary care physician. After living apart on two sides of the world beyond 3 long years, I recently moved to the USA with my two kids to stay with my husband. Staying together as a family was of utmost importance to me, but it meant to either give up my profession in India, which I loved dearly or to start again from scratch by redoing a radiology residency in the United States. Ultimately, choosing the latter one suited my personality of loving challenges.
Fortunately, I had an opportunity to visit a radiology department in the USA where my husband is doing a radiology fellowship. The advanced modalities available in the department greatly impressed me. Moreover, it stimulated a desire to upgrade my radiology knowledge and learn newer modalities. In addition, I also look forward to the research opportunities which are available in the USA and be a part of the American health care system which is one of the best in the world.
