Like in every career, it is important to like the job at hand, and I for one like to work with diagnostic images. Not only do I find the idea of producing pictures of others’ internal problems fascinating, but also the fact that I like to work with technology makes the job even better. Another reason why I would like to go into radiologic technology is because it involves helping other people with their confusions about what is wrong with them. I would be able to begin the process of helping others by producing an image that a radiologist will use to determine what is wrong, so that a doctor can determine the best way fix the problem. Day to day activity consists of performing diagnostic images that radiologists use for properly diagnosing patients to having the tasks of keeping patient records (“Radiologic Technologists”). Not only do radiologic technologists have to maintain and evaluate equipment, but they also need to make sure the patients are comfortable in the environment they are put into. Some technologists specialize in specific imaging such as sonography, radiography, and radiation therapy (“Radiology Specialist Areas”). One kind of advancement for a technologist is to become a Chief Radiologic Technologist or Director of Imaging. Another kind of advancement is to further education into sonography, radiation therapy and medical dosimetry (“Summary”). To become Chief of Director, one must have five years of training for an additional ARRT and a degree in management. In addition to extra training, they are given the task of determining the amounts of radiation to tissue and tumor while also being in charge of the other technologists.
