Search strategy and results
MEDLINE is used with search terms as shown: incidence AND (radiograph* knee osteoarthritis OR radiograph* knee OA) AND knee pain AND function AND cohort AND the elderly. As a result, there were 46 clinical study papers.

Identification of the best single piece of the evidence
Among the articles searched, longitudinal Cohort study by Muraki et al. (2012) seemed to be the best to reflect the patient’s conditions, such as radiographically diagnosed one as knee osteoarthritis (knee OA) by Kellgren/Lawrence grade (K/L grade), mean age of subjects (the 60s), and unilaterally or bilaterally
