I enjoy working as part of a team because of the shared ideas and interpretations. As a sonographer, I expect to work alongside physicians, nurses, fellow sonographers, and other medical staff to offer patients a comprehensive treatment plan. Observing current sonographers added a valuable perspective to my expectations; they ensured patient comfortability and knew when to either spend extra time scanning or push the scans quickly (i.e. abnormal valve function vs a frustrated toddler).…

I have chosen this as it would lead to a career i would love to do due to my massive respect for paramedics and the exciting and challenging role they have. This respect stems from having many family members involved in the NHS and healthcare. The field is always growing and changing and I yearn to undertake in this lifetime of learning. I find it so exciting that one day I can serve people by improving their health and do so using cutting-edge technologies, some which may have yet to be invented. I may not be able to change the world on the whole, but small actions can have a big influence. I must ensure that the skills [communication, teamwork, active listening and organization skills] I have learned are well applied during my clinical placement. Effective communication is very important in the health care field. As a radiographer, maintaining a positive attitude towards others, explaining jargon words to patients and seeking help from health care professionals when necessary are some examples of effective communication skills (Crawford & Bonham, 2006). For example, during placement, I must try to remain professional, objective and optimistic when speaking to patients. I must ensure care, sympathy and empathy for patients.…
