Radioactive By Alex Da Kid: Song Analysis

Improved Essays
If you think back to all the songs you heard three years ago in 2014, it’s of high chance that you think of the song “Radioactive”. This extremely popular song was sung by the famous rock band Imagine Dragons, and composed with the help of Alex Da Kid. When this track released, critics were praising every note and lyric. This number was introduced through many commercials and trailers, which was part of the reason it was a “sleeper hit”- a song that makes a gradual rise to popularity. “Radioactive” also holds the record for most weeks spent on the Billboard Hot 100 at 87 weeks. It has reached #1 in 20+ countries, and has been certified 10 times platinum. “Ten times platinum” means the hit has sold over 10 million copies. Imagine Dragons also …show more content…
The figurative meaning of this song is that he has gone through the bereavement of an old life and lifestyle, and must alter the way he does things. To establish this in a neat, fresh way, he relates it to the apocalypse. In the song, he sings “I’m waking up to ash and dust” (verse one, line five) as in he is waking up to the realization that his old life is gone, and that he is surrounded by the ruins or the corpse of such a life. However, what conveys that he must adjust is the same lyrics that cause you to think he is adjusting to the apocalypse when he is merely reconciling a new life. Such lyrics are “I’m breaking in, shaping up” from verse one and two. This means that he is adjusting and becoming accustomed to his situation, like you break in new shoes. He then welcomes you to the new age- a new life. Listen to the beat of the song. Most would describe it as a dark, strong tune. It is in the key of B minor, which simply adds to the eerie feeling. However, the tune or beat of the song doesn’t add any hidden meaning. It is only an accomplice to the song, as the song is dark, and the person in it is by no means a fragile person. The song is about the end of a world, which is usually wrapped and blended together with dark and lonely feelings. Nobody wants to leave the world they have,

I selected the song, “Friends” by Raury for the scene when Johnny, Ponyboy, and Two-Bit meet Sheri and Marcia at the drive-in. The title of this song relates to this scene because, Johnny, Ponyboy and Two-Bit almost instantly become friends with Sheri and Marcia, when they first officially meet at the drive-in. In this song, a few lyrics closely relate to the connection between the Socs and Greaser friends. “At peace, at peace, we are, forever,” relates to how when Sheri tells Ponyboy she wishes they could openly be friends, because they are unable to at that time due to Socs and Greaser rivalry. Another lyric goes “I have some friends who are the future, they need this world much more than I” relates to how the Greasers sometimes feel about…

I believe that he is trying to show how he woke up to a world where everything was destroyed because he says “I’m waking up to ash and dust” (Imagine Dragons) meaning that he has awakened to some mass destruction along with breathing in the evilness of the world, therefore, he realizes that an apocalypse has happened and that this is how the world is going to be unless he tries to change it, so, therefore, he is trying to start a revolution to create a new era. In the lyrics “I’m breaking up, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus” (Imagine Dragons), I think that the composer is trying to convey to the public that he is trying to break free from this world of disaster that he is currently stuck in. As Dan Reynolds stated “it’s a song about having an awakening; kind of waking up one day and deciding to do something new, and see life in a fresh new way” (Radioactive (Imagine Dragons song).…

The song “Paradise” is originally an English pop song by Coldplay, a British rock band. It was released on 12th September 2011 while the cover version of this song, “Peponi” was released 3 years later on 9th January 2012 by a crossover band - The Piano Guys. The Piano Guys had included some African folk-like elements into the original version of “Paradise” by adding some African traditional instruments, costumes and the language. I observed that The Piano Guys and Alex Boye have utilized their Bi-musical knowledge in their collaboration to create “Peponi”. Bi-musicality is the concept of not only researching music from other culture, but to also play-said music in order to further understand the cross-cultural differences.…

Several examples of this concept can be found throughout the song. The first example of this is heard in the introduction of the song. When starting up the track, the first thing the listener hears is a melody created by the bass alongside the bass drum. The melody that is played throughout the beginning manages to drive the song into the first verse. Not only that, but this melody is quite atmospheric and mellow; cluing the listener into the ideology that the song’s message is thought provoking as well as unclear.…

After that information is found then I need to show how this period in time has an effect on the poem. When using this lens to analyze the poem I researched that the time period the book came out is not easy to find so instead I will be using the age that she described in the poem in order to use the historical lense correctly.…
