Radio Raheem Analysis

Decent Essays
The ending of this movie was full of emotions and drama. Throughout the movie there are arguments involving race, which seems to be why the story ended the way it did. It all started over the fact that there was no pictures of “his brothers” on the wall of a pizza place his friend is employed at. After that occurrence the movie leaned more towards racial arguments. They throw around the word “nigger” like its an appropriate word to use, so I can understand why the colored men are so frustrated. With that being said, it is still no excuse for what they did at the end. Radio Raheem is a trouble maker throughout the movie, walking around blaring music, and getting on everyones nerves. He is always testing the waters to see how far he can push

In 2015, over 670,000 children spent time in U.S. foster care.” (Childrensrights 1) Now, in 2018 there are many more children who are living in foster care and end up living in foster care for the rest of their years as a child. Richard Wright, “Rite of Passage” is a novel many people could relate to choosing the right path. Families who are from the ghetto might not have all the support and money they need for their children and look to foster care, where their children could either have a supporting family that will love and cares for them or a neglective family where they go down the wrong path in life.…

The play that I will be writing about is Baltimore. The play was written by Kirsten Greenidge. The play that I attended was on Tuesday, April 4th at the Henry Heymann Theater on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus and was directed by Ricardo Vila-Roger. The play is about how a new resident advisor deals is modern day racism at her University. She is a strong-willed woman that wishes to believe that racism no longer exists in America and has a hard time coming to terms with the fact that racism is very prevalent in society.…

One comparison that I would like to note, is the way the radio is portrayed throughout the movie. There are several scenes throughout the entire movie where a radio was used. One specific scene is towards the end of the movie, where Red Pollard is not able to race because of his injuries. Instead, he gets to hear the entire race, in detail, while listening to his radio (Ross, 1:40). All throughout the movie, there are scenes similar to this one.…

It is about a group of 5 boys who were wrongly convicted of raping a woman who was jogging around Central Park. The five boys did not know each other and were questioned without an attorney. The police were interrogating them until they got a confession out of them. Once they got a confession, they were in prison for 6-13 years.…

One The actor’s name was Mark Kendall. One moment in the performance that especially stuck out to me was the “Green Eggs and Ham” bit. There was no real overarching narrative to give context to this particular scene, but it was towards the end of the performance. The skit consisted of Kendall reading Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess, however each instance of the words “green eggs and ham” was replaced with the word “nigger.”…

During the late 1980’s African American cinema transformed by the two movies Krush Groove and Do The Right Thing. The directors chose to not only expose the experiences of some black Americans during the time, they also used music to enhance the scenes and express the message they wanted to share. Adding another element like music to the films created an atmosphere for the audience to capture their imaginations. The directors primarily capitalized on the newly fad of hip-hop by targeting the younger generations. Successfully, Spike Lee, the director of Do The Right Thing, created his reputation for creating films that exposed pressures of personal struggle and the social orders of power.…

The main idea of the movie Radio was that if you are kind to people and never give up on them, no matter how hard they are struggling, they can succeed. In the movie, James, or “Radio” as his nickname came to be, was a man with a disability who tended to loiter around his town’s high school while his mom was at work. One day, he happened upon the school’s football practice, where he became so fascinated with the game that he kept the ball after it was thrown over the fence. However, some of the athletes decided to tie him up, most likely out of disrespect and misunderstanding for his disability. The football coach kindly untied him and treated him at water and a meal, eventually forming a bond with Radio.…

    Movie Crash Stereotypes

We have all seen or heard those nasty and abusive comments. Some learned these words at a young age and some learned them at school with friends. Despite this, we have learned to treat everyone equal; black, white, male, or female, everyone has the same opportunity to be successful in life because we have learned to not hire or refuse people a job based on different skin color. It wasn't like that before, but now we have learned the right way to treat a person. There were multiple shocking things that were presented in this unit, from some scenes in the Movie Crash, to an article about a Trump supporter being mauled based on a stereotype; they both show wrong ways to treat others.…

Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing brings up many important themes, importantly, racism, order, and a person’s morals. One of the most important lines of the movie, inspiring the title, is when Da Mayor tells Mookie to “always…do the right thing.” This is important advice, but it brings up the question: do any of the characters in this movie really follow it? Sal’s interactions and reactions to his black customers, Buggin’ Out and Radio Raheem’s protest, and Mookie starting the riot are all main points of conflict in the movie, and they are points where the audience may realize that doing the right thing isn’t as clear as it may seem.…

Even though the intent is to highlight the negatives in black communities I can relate to the content and its characters. I do agree with the stereotypes of the characters but I can see how it may send out the wrong message about African Americans as people. Riley Freeman for instance is a prime example of how the media portrays African Americans as loud, aggressive, violent, and unfashionable. He wears oversized clothes, has cornrows, and is very vulgar. Throughout the series, Riley constantly refers to others as “N*ggas”, “Hoes” and other derogatory terms.…

“Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impartial because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all…” I strongly agree with this quote said by Martin Luther King Jr. Violence is a very concerning issue in the past, present and certainly in the film “Do The Right Thing”. It is my personal belief that you cannot achieve anything by violence and that it only brings major unwanted consequences into our lives. The film “Do The Right Thing” illustrates the difference between violence and counter-violence and the diverse consequences they each convey. Violence is the act of physical force toward someone to hurt them and in cases kill them, in order to gain power.…

The sports talk radio program I decided to listen to was ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption from 2/26/16. This program features hosts Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon, both well-known figures in the sports world who have been hosting PTI since 2001. I have listened and watched PTI before, and one of the reasons it is so great is because they condense a lot of sports talk into a short amount of time. On weekdays, it airs on ESPN at 5:30 pm and only runs for a half an hour. It is a perfect time to watch, as you can listen to some funny sports debate in the time right before dinner, and it is only half an hour instead of a full hour.…
