Radio Detections During The Cold-War

Improved Essays
Number stations are short wave radio stations that broadcast a series of numbers, bleeps or encoded messages reportedly to spies during the Cold- War era. However there is no proof whatsoever to what purpose they serve. The codes that were emitted by the radios were said to only be able to be translated that day, as the source of the code or the ‘crack’ would often change. These are real and can be found throughout the internet. They cannot be traced and never have.
The code 15728 repeated over and over again is one of the most famous number station recordings available. No one to this day knows what that or any others mean.
The Russians, Cubans, English, Americans and Chinese had the number stations. However no one will claim them. No country

At the start of The Cheque Lady recording can be heard a short tune. This short tune is repeated over and over again, tens of years on end. That is supposedly for spies to recognise when they ha ve tuned into the correct frequency and to keep on that radio setting. These are called ‘place holders’.
The most famous place holder is called ‘The Buzzer’ which was recorded in 1982 which may ha ve been on air since 1976. The buzzing sound occurs about 25 times every minute and a Russian voice can be heard every once in a while along with a very faint recording of Swan Lake. No
Prizes here guessing who that Number Station belonged to.
The Number Stations always broadcast on the same frequency and never changed their unique place holder. Essentially the same sound of The Buzzer placeholder was going constantly from at least 1982-2010 when it ended. In 2010 when The Buzzer ended a message was played over and over again saying ‘Mikael, Dimitri, Xena, Boris’.
There are other theories other than the Cold- War spy network, such as drug smuggling and crime networks. However the frequency of interruptions in the place holders coincide exactly with large government and international events.
There is an English Number Station dubbed ‘The Lincolnshire Poacher’, google the recording and then Concert Band will never be the same

Hedy Lamarr was crucial in the development of frequency hopping technology that is used in military communications, Wi-Fi, as well as many other devices which had various users occupying the same radio frequency. This article written by Peter Hong narrates the life of Hedy Lamarr, the actress and inventor, going into great detail about her contributions to technology. The author explains how Mrs. Lamarr partnered with Mr. Antheil to produce a device that would allow U.S. radio-guided torpedoes avoid enemy's attempts to misdirect them. Mrs. Lamarr and Mr. Antheil meet at a dinner party and after a discussion about the Nazi movement Mrs. Lamarr asked Antheil to help her develop an idea to aid the American cause. She envisioned a frequency changing machine that could be broadcasted to American torpedos, which may have been inspired when she listened to her first husband talk to his fellow engineers about his ideas.…

    Deaf Mosaic Summary

The video I watched is called “Deaf Mosaic #402” which is a television program and the number represents the episode for the show. Deaf Mosaic is produced and distributed by the members of Gallaudet University, however it stopped running in, I think, around 1995. The TV show used to give the viewers an insight into Deaf culture and history. Anyways, the episode #402 is very important because of how it changed the deaf community in such a big way; it was the protest called “Deaf President Now.” I chose the video because I have seen it before, but wanted to watch again to refresh my memory to realize how important the protest was for those deaf students at Gallaudet as well as the deaf people in general.…

Before we can truly go into depth about postwar U.S and Anticommunism influence on foreign policies, a brief summary of the events just before the Cold war. Shortly after the second world war, global relationship among the world’s most powerful countries turned rather sour after the allies victory over axis power. What kept every country involved with World War II cooperating, particularly the United States and the Soviet Union was a common goal to relinquish Germany’s military control over Europe. However, what began as a mutual agreement, quickly dissolve into bitter, cold resentment. The Cold War is a term used to describe the friction between two world superpowers during 1945 to 1989, the Soviet Union and the United States.…

From the end of WWII in 1945 until 1991, the United States and the Soviet Union interacted in a major conflict called the Cold War. It was called the Cold War because there was no physical harm or the use of deadly weapons, therefore, the two sides never directly fought each other. Throughout this time, the United States followed a foreign policy called 'containment '. This policy was highly effective between the U.S. and West Berlin, Kore, and Cuba. The United States contained communism in these countries by aiding West Berlin, staging Korean counterattacks, and quarantining Cuban ships.…
