Usually, when children have malignant brain tumors, they will need radiation therapy to try to stop the malignant cells from spreading. Doctors try their hardest to postpone radiational therapy in children as it may generate long-term brain effects. When radiation therapy is used, the radiational energy transmitted to the tumor area can affect abnormal tissue as well as normal tissue, which can induce problems. The more tissue area that the doctors choose to radiate, the higher the chance that the normal tissues will be harmed. Young children are most likely to have damage occur during radiation. Relying on relatives to help take care of the child is what many of the mothers need to be able to lean on for a support system in order to keep them sane. Mothers have different methods as to how they cope with the responsibility of trying to take care of a child with a brain tumor. Retaining positivity may be wearying for parents, but it is necessary to make their children think that everything will turn out fine. On the other hand, fathers of children with brain tumors handle the situation in a much different way. Sometimes, fathers try to hide their feelings from the people around them because they are not comfortable listening and answering questions regarding their child’s situation. Fathers try to preoccupy themselves so they are not constantly worrying about their child (Shortman et al. 743-46). Brain tumors can also affect the financial situation of a family as surgery and treatment can be quite expensive. Brain tumors can lead to a long time of medical and emotional issues for not only the child with the tumor but for the family of the child as
