Radiation Therapy Pros And Cons

A therapy that also works to fight cancer is radiation therapy. Radiation therapy is more effective than non-traditional treatments because it kills cancer for the better, even though it is a little at a time, after therapy in a few weeks or months. Yet it still kills cancer at hand rather than not at all. Depending on how much radiation a doctor uses on a patient, depends on if the cancer cells die and the patient is free of cancer. It all depends on the doses given, “At high doses, radiation kills cancer cells or slows the growth by damaging their DNA…”(National Cancer Institute 2). It is excellent to have radiation with surgery because the radiation is getting the patient prepared for surgery. This is because it helps the surgery shrinking or getting rid of the tumor. Before surgery shows that it, “shrinks the size of cancer so it can be removed by surgery and be less likely to return…”(National Cancer Institute 2). This means it is easier to get the cancerous tumor out after have radiation therapy, which is expected because radiation can shrink because of the different types of radiation that can be used for precise incisions. This is excellent to those needing more than one treatment. It allows a wider chance of beating cancer and surviving. Surgery is more physical from doctor to patient owned to the fact that surgery is removing, partly removing, or easing the pain of the cancerous tumor. Taking before surgery has a bigger chance to remove the tumor, because chemo reduces the tumor size. Chemo can also be used with radiation because radiation and chemo have the same idea, which is to shrink and eliminate cancer for the better of the patient involved.
