Radiation therapy has a big effect on women as they are trying to fight cancer. This therapy my leaves these women fatigue. The fact is that 1 in 8 women a year are diagnosed with breast cancer. Of the 84 percent of women that are diagnosed (Reis, D., Walsh, M. E., Young-McCaughan, S., & Jones, T. (2013). These women have not found a way to adapt to their new life style. With the help of Roy Adaptation Mode and Nia exercise, these women were able to increase their quality of life. Holistic health care is the system that focuses on patient center care. The theory considers emotional, economic, social, physical and spiritual needs. Also the patient’s response to illness and how the illness will affect the ability to meet self-care need. So even though you are treating a patient with a wound or a disease, you need to assess them emotionally. If you were to use “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs” to understand the patient, then you can treat them holistically. You should ask about their home life, if they have all their basic needs, safety, love and belonging, self-esteem, and self-actualization. For example, a nurse is treating a patient that is now a paraplegic. The patient was in a severe car accident and someone close to them had died. The nurse should ask them how they are feeling because they could be feeling depressed. Also now that they are a paraplegic, they can’t fulfill the same kind of life that they have lived. The nurse need to educate the client in the condition that they are in. Then try to help them get through this. The health care provider need to help the patient adapt to their new life.
