To the Editor,

One of my favorite quotes of all time “ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” -Martin Luther King. Racism can be seen as prejudice, discrimination or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior. Racism has been seen continuously in the United States and several of different countries throughout generations. I feel as we the people see one race is greater than another. History is always repeating such as police brutality, race riots, and discrimination. I believe that it is possible for the future generation to change

Look at all the children that we can change, especially their view of point of racism. Will this be the generation that will fight for it and make a difference. Gregory Velazco y Trianosky referred in his passage about the future races in America. “We are mixed for the second time by race, as we inter-mingle with our new Angelo-European cousins…This racial and cultural second mixing I call the Nuevo Mestizaje” (Trianosky 229). This shows that our generation isn’t afraid to blend with races and cultures together. The Nuevo Mestizaje is addressing that a new mixed generation could be a guide to ending racism. Although he is referring to Mestizos. This can also be applied to all of us. Such as Italian, Hispanic, Russian, etc. Once we come to a new country, we are like a new student at a school. Personally we bring our culture, then our own selves mix it from the place or country we are in. The only problem is the older past generations, because there are still remains in racisms. The past can’t leave, but we can leave it …show more content…
The thought of giving our current generation of African Americans who had slaved descendants funds are “healing” for all the suffering that was caused. There were opinions and sayings that this wouldn’t be enough based off if its truthfully kindness, which is what Howard McGary addresses in his article. “But before we can say whether African Americans should forgive and forget, we must have an adequate account of forgiveness” (McGary 251). Would the American government do this because it’s an easier solution to having African Americans off their back or can they actually be honest about forgiveness from the race? In my opinion, if reparations were to actually happen then I think it make things worse than they are already are. If the nation wants peace between races. The solution is to be united and actually take account of others feelings. By putting ourselves in their shoes shows truly honesty that we care about their feelings and can relate to them. Not attempting to bribe people. Money isn’t always the solution to correct the mistake or fix the awful

For 250 years the African American race was enslaved. African Americans are now asking that they be reparated for the enslavement of their ancestors. They feel as if a moral debt is owed to them for the years of pain and suffering of their ancestors. African Americans are not the only ones seeking reparations. People of all races who see that what their ancestors went through are asking that they be reparated or recieve financial compensation.…

In an article entitled “The Case for Reparations” written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, from the Atlantic, he argues the idea of reparations and how it deserves an important place in the discussion of race in the United States. Though it may seem as though Coates title of his article portrays “reparation” as: making amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged; However, he isn’t demanding that a sum of taxpayer dollars should be handed out to every African American. Though it seems like a very effective method of apologizing on the behalf of the United States history of racism, it is not possible to come up with a price that would repay for centuries of enslavement and oppression. Rather, Coates…

Furthermore, Minjarez paints this mural in his community which made up of Hispanic and other racial backgrounds to build a supportive and relatable connection with each other. He wants the public to think that the future for immigrants is a reachable and realistic one. Our society is like a statue, they both need the proper structure needed in order to keep it steady, but when one piece does not fit, then they will both topple down. Although statues may not relate to the problem, racism can relate to the one piece that does not fit, and this problem is explained in the articles " Black Men In Public Spaces", by Brent Staples, and " Is Everyone A Little Bit Racist" , by Nicolas Kristof. These articles dive into the topic of how racism affects everyday lives and how detrimental it is to the society and the people within. Also, it shows the unfortunate story of a victim of racism. Unless changes are made, racism will rule supreme in communities and there will be nothing for people to stop it.…

I believe that with no living former slaves any reparation payments would only serve to give current African Americans a stronger feeling of entitlement. I am inagreement with the article that it is logistically impossible to pay for reparations. If reparations are paid some welfare programs will be affected, therefore people who live with the help of welfare programs will be affected as well. Ultimately this would cause a negative outcome to happen. Lowering the taxes for people who have ancestors who were affected by slavery would be appropriate.…

Racism has turned our society into one full of hate and discrimination based of skin color and cultural beliefs. Unfortunately, discrimination has done more than just separate individuals socially it has also divided them into high and low economic classes. We have created a society in which people who are born into lower classes are unable to climb the social ladder and reach an elite economic status. Our society has made it almost impossible for those who are not in power to ever reach such a position. We have created a society in which those who are suffering will continue to suffer and be looked at as a having no value or ability to contribute to the success of the economy and structure of society.…

Racism has existed since the early 1600s when African Americans were first brought to America against their will to work as slaves. It wasn’t until the Civil Rights Movement, beginning in 1955, that the lives of African Americans started to transform and the U.S. Supreme Court began to terminate “Jim Crow” laws and ban segregation (“Civil Rights Movement,” n.d.). The main goal of eradicating segregation was to reach what is known as “racial equality”, which is the balance between all the races making everyone equal. Since the Civil Right Movement, our country has continued to make steps of improvement including, swearing in our nation’s first black president and the fact that black people and white people are now able to go to the same school.…
