The author mentions “Research suggest that whites are particularly likely to discriminate against blacks when choices are not clear-cut and competing arguments are flying about-”. This leaves readers with lot of questions. Who performed the study? How valid is there work? What bias do they have? You nothing about the people who have done these studies. To make it even worse, the author makes it seem like he is referring to the last study that he talked about but in the paragraph before but actuality he is referring to a new study. While in a brief preliminary read it increase the strength of the argument, when you go back a read close it decreases the validity of the argument because it makes it seem like the author it trying to slip in faulty information. This does nothing to help the ether the casual reader or the close reader, all it shows is that this author thinks that people are not paying enough attention to notice that he is slipping in facts without backing them up. This does not help my view of the author so I am more likely to not like his
