Racism is an issue that should be addressed not only because it offends certain people, but because it is a hindrance to one’s potential and capabilities. This country was founded on the ideals that all men are created equal and have certain unalienable rights including the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Racism denies African Americans these unalienable rights. By design it is in disaccord with our country’s founding values, and it is the duty of every American to uphold these values. The country prides itself on being the land of the free, with unmatched opportunities, and promises of the American Dream for those who work for it. In regards to the glorification of African American culture, it is true that black culture has become popular culture in society today.
