The Black Lives Matter movement is not racist because they do not suggest that one race is above other races. Those against the movement are often misinterpreting the message they are portraying. Because BLM focuses on one race’s issues, people often think that supporters of the movement are racist because saying “black lives matter” is often misinterpreted as believing that “only black lives matter,” and other lives do not. Though it focuses on one race, it does not bring other races down. Bringing attention to one issue does not automatically mean that other issues are not important; for example, someone saying that they love apples does not mean they hate every other fruit. Those who oppose the Black Lives Matter Movement assume that it promotes the discrimination of police officers, when in fact, the movement is against discrimination of African Americans by police officers. They are not calling for violence against officers; they are calling for a change in treatment towards African Americans. It would be hypocritical for them to discriminate as they are protesting discrimination in the justice
