Most people are not conciess about there own racism..talking about it makes them more aware of there own subconciess racist thought patterns which are derived from cultural conditioning and perhaps they may even be a artifact of evolution (Stereotyping is apparently a evolutionary characterstics as per some theories). This way people can take corrective actions conciessly against what is subconciesly ingrained in them. For example this forum itself is a great example of where dialog and talking about it leads to more awareness for everyone. Lots of discussions here lead to highly emotional responses, shouts and abuses ..but when all is said and done most people here do become aware of there own racism which by itself is a major improvement.
