Racism In America Today many people find themselves drawn to the news and stories publicized on media. Whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or various other media sites, stories of race frequently published and shared by many individuals. Racism tends to be a topic that is frequently discussed and publicized. The question however, is why? Slavery ended so why is racism such a heavily discussed topic in society today? Any conversation, paper, argument, or discussion can begin over ignorance or the lack of knowledge over a topic. Many arguments begin because one person believes they know more about the topic then the other person, when in turn neither probably know all the facts pertaining to the argument at hand. Prejudice is the thought in connection to a belief or feeling towards a certain topic. How does each word relate to one another? A person may discriminate by treating another person unfairly because of a belief that person may have regarding the race of the other individual, which was formed based on an opinion or feeling created without just cause. To understand what a hate crime is fbi.gov states that the definition of a hate crime is, a criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity. Although a hate crime involves much more than racial bias, it does relate directly to racism. Discrimination, prejudice, racism, and hate crimes are directly related to one another. Can justice be found? If the people of the United States of America could bring light to the true meaning of racism and come together to find a solution, one day the country could see racism coming to an end. The crucial actions that need to take pace to find peace with one another, the people must first be willing to let go of any prejudices they may have towards another person or race. Next, the people must accept opposing opinions or statements and understand why they are made. Following this, the people must then educate themselves on the definition of racism, discrimination, prejudice, and hate crime. Then, the people will need to learn and understand the correlation between each word and its definition and how they each play into a much bigger issue. Finally, the people must be willing to work together, find a common goal, and then a solution will be found. However, the probability of this occurring is very slim. The people have accepted the world and racism for what it is today and it appears that it may become worse. Although a solution could be found, the likelihood of it occurring is very
