This quote shows Starr’s reaction on how Khalil died over a hairbrush and not a gun. He died unarmed and young.
Khalil’s hairbrush symbolizes that police officers showed a sign of mistrust towards young teenagers like him. The cop thought that he was reaching for a gun however it was just a black hairbrush. Cops make more assumptions to the black community which tells us that there is a disparity between whites and blacks.
