My morning started off the same as always. I woke up, listened to my mom yell at the dog, took a shower, curled my hair, put on light makeup and got dressed. Today I was wearing a sweatshirt that I just got it is black and it says “I woke up like this” and paired it with white jeans. I live in Chino Hills California so it’s usually really hot but inside the school it is really cold. After I was done getting ready I went downstairs grabbed a granola bar and a water then walked out the door with my stuff.
I decided to walk to school because I needed the exercise. I thought it would be a good idea to walk through the park because it was a shortcut and I didn’t want to be late. As I was walking I felt like I was being watched. You know how when you are in class and the teacher is standing right by you and you feel awkward, that is how I felt. Of course I pushed it off I wasn’t really

Once I walked out of the school the same guy with the bright blue eyes was standing right outside of the building. It was almost as if he was waiting on someone. He was probably older than what I thought he was, maybe he has a child that goes to this school, or he is 21 but he has a little brother. I lost my train of thought when I heard heavy footsteps behind me. I didn’t want to look, but me being stupid I looked. Once I turned around that same guy was right behind me but he didn’t have a child behind him. I didn’t put much thought into it so again I just brushed it off. As I got closer and closer to my house I realized that the footsteps were still following me… and so was the guy. I wanted to lose him so I walked into the woods. I know it sounds stupid because that is where everybody gets killed in the movies, but this isn’t the movies it is real life. The only reason why I went in the woods because there is a police station on the other side. I can freak the guy out and he will leave and he won’t know where I live. Once I got there the guy

1st Month It’s not as bad as it was made out to be. I had been evacuated out of my house, and into a ghetto. I have never been closer to my community than I have now. We are in immediate vicinity of each other and we are able to socialize and operate normally for a community from a certain aspects. The guards aren’t being heinous, and they seem to take our best interest in mind.…

First and foremost I am not racist, far from it, as you will clearly and unambiguously understand shortly. One of my best friends in Elementary School was a boy named Kanod. At the age of eight I did not see Kanod as any different from myself. We both faced ridicule each and every day and were both different, on the outside at least. You see Kanod was Black…

While it is uncomfortable to acknowledge that some of us have an unearned advantage in life thanks to things that we have no control over; such as gender, race, skin color, sexual orientation, accent and even wealth, it is important to discuss to better ourselves. As much as we, as individuals can continue to acknowledge and recognize our privilege it is practically impossible to discard or refrain from benefiting from the advantageous perks of the privileges. 0However, as we are able to see this invisible advantage many deny we can use our privilege to help and speak out and against the societal constructs. Lucky for me I have American, middle-class, straight and most of the time, white privilege. When I have a conversation with someone, with…

As we made it passed all those people, a car appeared in back of us. We continued through the woods as hundreds of trees surrounded us. There were absolutely no more walkers in the area we were. Walking in the dark gave off an eerie feeling. Almost the same feeling you get by walking through a graveyard on Halloween.…

My uncle and I quickly ducked down for what seemed like a minute or two. When we popped back up to look out the window, the man was still standing on the patio just staring back at the house. My uncle and I quickly came up with a plan to try to and scare him off. First, we tried to turn off all the lights to make it look like no one was home. But when we looked out the window, he was still there.…

Christine, I was pondering the leap from Slavery in the Unitied States to racial inequality. I don't think it makes a difference between US versus Iberia or skin color versus religion. I think it has to do with the psychology of "you are historically less than me" concept. Wether it be the islamic factins, color factions or hatred between sernians and albanians; it seems that the theme is the same.…

Racism is a historically-rooted structure in today’s society, stemming from hundreds of years of overt inequality and dehumanization. While of course, views of race have progressed to what one may say is relatively equal at face value, and the amount of legally permissible interracial violence has decreased, racism and inequality have still managed to persist. It has been clearly defined by many as a social issue, as a pest that we very much so need to rid ourselves of. In Luvell Anderson’s article, “Epistemic Injustice and the Philosophy of Race”, there are a particular set of suggestions categorized as “post-racial”, intending to “solve” the problems associated with racism.…

I never really thought too much about racism when growing up. Maybe that is due to my upbringing. I was raised in a small diverse country town where, for the most part, everyone got along. Not to say that there was no racism; it just was not seen very often. Some would call me lucky to have been so naïve in my microcosm.…

Walking by the White House on Thanksgiving Day with my aunts, uncles and cousins, my uncle said out loud, “I spy with my little eye a black dot” and while it might not seem like so a big thing, my family knew what he was talking about, he was talking about President Obama. His kids and his wife laughed but I looked at my dad and he looked at me back with a serious face. My uncle lives in Johns Creek, in a neighborhood where I have never seen a single black person in my life. Hanging out with my cousins and their friends I noticed that they weren’t the only ones with this mentality but a large percentage of their neighborhood had them as well.…

The doctor’s office was never a fun place to be. I sat in room 2 with my mom and dad, this was a regular 3 month checkup. I glanced at the clock and our appointment had started right on time as the doctor walked in at 12 o’clock noon. My endocrinologist, Dr. Miller, was very friendly and he always gave off a very relaxed and calm vibe. He began with his regular routine, he took my blood pressure, and tested my A1C.…

It is 8am on a Tuesday, and I was getting ready for school. I threw on a bright pink short sleeve shirt, jeans, some rose gold hoop earrings, and a hot pink jacket that had the printed words ”Love Justice” with a heart between the two words. I pulled my hair back in two pigtails then went downstairs to grab my bag and head out. When I arrived at school I went up to my friends Sarah, Diana, and Alana. Sarah was a tall peppy girl, who had black hair, which was always put up in two buns, and wore a rose pink jacket.…
