Racism Is Still Very Much Alive Essay

In the today 's generation, there are still many problems we face as a country that have to do with racism. It seems like as it becomes more recognized, it also becomes more acceptable in the white community. In the 21st Century there are many signs that racism is still very much alive like the discrimination in schools, the arrest rates for minor offenses, and the image given to certain races by the news.

If you look at minority students in public schools, you can see an undeniable amount of discrimination against them. In a study done by the Department of Education it shows that black students, especially black males, are more likely to be punished for the same action done by a white student starting as early as kindergarten. In a recent study completed by the Department of Education found out that in the public schools being tested, black students were much likelier to be punished for the same action done by a white student. Even when you compare the student number, seeing that black students only make up about 18% in preschool the odds were very much against them. Black students in the preschool environment make up 48% students receiving more than one out of school suspension. When you look at the fact that white students make up 43% of preschool students but only 26% of those white students received more than one out of school suspension.
