Different races have had a hard life through out the ages. In just America they have faced trial and persecution. Desmond Tutu said

"Racism, xenophobia and unfair discrimination have spawned slavery, when human beings have bought and sold and owned and branded fellow human beings as if they were so many beasts of burden." This is not how the world is today thankfully. We have interracial schools and respect other people. People who used to make fun of different races now have a deep respect for others culture and doings. Races around the world can now be free because of the changing world.

But the world has some down falls too. The media has gone to far with support of off the deep end celebrities and condoning violence. Some people would be even say that racism is worse today then before. But several people disagree with that.

The False Claims of the Defenders of Slavery Back when there was slavery, people understood that owning people was wrong, but if they did not own people than the economy would fall apart. To make sure this would not happen; people came up with reasons to justify having slaves so that they could save their economy. The defenders of slavery made the claims that slaves never complain and were happy, they had no human attachments, they had no desire for knowledge, and they had no inclination to work for themselves. However, Frederick Douglass challenges these defenses of slavery in two ways: the practice of slavery that accounts for the claim the defenders make and by telling real life examples. One defense that Douglass challenges is the…

Famously said by Josephine baker. Discrimination throughout America’s past plays a big role in American society and culture today. For example, in To Kill a Mockingbird the color of a man’s skin decides whether he is innocent or guilty, and in The Help white people decide what kind of lives African Americans are allowed to live. In both stories the fate of black lives is in the hands of the white folk’s. Also, similarly in both stories the white folks always discriminate against blacks.…

Slavery today is considered to be an abhorrent, outrageous institution, yet it used to be a widespread and accepted practice in the South. People blindly believed in the “mythology of slavery”, which claimed that slavery was justifiable and necessary to both white and African-American people. In his autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass debunks this attitude and reveals the true, horrendous nature of slavery. To combat the misguided notions of slavery, Douglass testifies against the romantic perspective of slavery and the belief of the intellectual inferiority of African Americans, as well as the heartbreaking disloyalty and distrust among slaves. One way that Douglass rebukes the romantic image of slavery…

The Permanence of Racism “Black people are the magical faces at the bottom of the well”, Derrick Bell. For as long as humans have existed, the permanence of racism, prejudicialness and separation between mankind has always been prevalent. The idea presented in “Faces at the Bottom of the Well” that, “we shall overcome”, is an excuse for people of color to sit around and wait for an adversary to come and bring them out of the compromising situation Whites has placed us in. Bell elaborates on his upbringing, mentioning how at the time, slave heritage was seen more shameful than something that should give on a sense of pride. Having slave blood was looked down upon and to this day it still is.…

Capitalism and Slavery In the introduction to his book Capitalism and Slavery, Eric Williams clearly states, “Here, then, is the origin of Negro slavery. The reason was economic, not racial; it had to do not with the color of the laborer, but the cheapness of the labor.” This meant that he was attempting to pursue an understanding of the economic aspects of slavery without the association of morals nor ethics. An argument that is indeed controversial in our now humanitarian-based society.…
