Racism Effects On Society

Racism is like a fire; it spreads faster and faster when more fuel is added. In today’s society, the media headlines and protests going on is like fuel to the fire. The more fuel added is only making the racism more corrupt and dangerous to the people living in this world. The discrimination of people based on their race in this world is not only effecting its victims, but also the society as a whole. It is evident in society that racism is spreading rapidly. By discriminating others based on their race, it is tearing the world apart one day at a time. A new story is in the media every day under the issue racism. It can drive one to have anger, be violent, and become mentally unwell and from one individual to another, it only continues to spread. Eventually, this can cause divisions and tension on a community and society as a whole. It is a proven fact that racism causes stress and other health issues on its victims. Stress can lead to unhealthy habits, for example, smoking, drinking, or even mental illnesses. Teenagers can especially be effected by racism. All the name calling and harsh things teens read on social media can really get into their heads and lead to depression or a feeling of inequality. Racism in the media also effects people’s opinions on races. This can result in whether some colored people get hired at businesses. If an employer has a bad taste of a race based on what they see in the media, that can play a role when it gets down to which person to hire, the Caucasian man or the African American.
