There were different stories he used to form his argument both empirically and explicitly. However, all the stories he brought in his article were about racism more or less. Amongst all the stories he provided in the article, “The Past Is The Past” and “I Didn’t Own Any Slaves” were the most effective and interesting ones. These two stories provide some positive messages, which is implied by many points. So, “The Past Is The Past” is a story about color-blind and specifically focuses on a group or individual background. According to Emily (as quoted in Bonilla-Silva), a student at SU, “I don’t think one group should have an advantage over another regardless of what happened in the past” (160), it is very explicit and straightforward that, Emily is against the color-blind racism, which is a positive message of the story. Likewise, “I Didn’t Own Any Slaves” shares very similar message, which is also positive. However, even though this story shares a positive message, the essence of the story is something related to white people. According to Lynn (as quoted in Bonilla-Silva”, an MU student, “we shouldn’t be punished real harshly for the things that our ancestors did, on the one hand, but on the other hand, I think that now we should try and change the way we do things so that we aren’t doing the same things that our …show more content…
The author Bonilla-Silva explained and argued about all the factors of racism in his article, “The article “Racism without Racists. Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in the United States” (2003), but he mainly focused on color-blind racism and racial inequality. By the use data from mostly interviews and somewhat survey, he was able to form his argument or main point of the article. Also, by providing stories such as “Past Is The Past” and “I Didn’t Own Any Slaves”, he was able to imply some crucial messages about racism, and those messages eventually serves a positive purpose and implies something positive, which was implied according to what Emily and Lynn said in the stories of Bonilla-Silva. Nevertheless, it was a really helpful article about racism because I could learn a lot of new information from it, which will certainly help me to discuss and think about race
