Unfortunately racism does exist within the police force. I would like to take you back to the beginning. It first came to the nation’s attention with a televised treatment of African American Civil Rights protestors. The media used pictures of police officers using water cannons, police dogs, etc. to attack African Americans that were not armed. The first case of this type of treatment starts in Birmingham, Alabama on May 3, 1963. There is a picture of a 17 year old African American male being attacked by a police k-9 dog and they officer snatching the young man by the shirt that was posted in the New York Times.
