Racism is a very common and serious issue that still takes place in real life and in real time. In the 1950s-1960s racism was at its peak and it reflects in Lorraine Hansberry’s well-known play, A Raisin in the Sun. A Raisin in the Sun is a gift of a play from Lorraine Hansberry. It is a complex work with foresight and insight that was in many ways unique at the time, or at least certainly in her context. Though the family at the center of the play is Black, and though it is a play that focuses on ‘race’ relations, and ‘racism’, it is not consumed by these themes entirely, but also touches on issues of class and gender and uses telling dialogue to articulate and challenge views. After reading the book we see how racism and gender contributed to the situation they find themselves in. Racism contributed to the fact that they were coloured people struggling to find work, struggling to make a proper living and provide for their family.…

Racism Towards African Americans Majority of people are labeled by stereotypes that society gives them and those people do not realize how discrimination affects an individual and therefore many authors have written novels to create awareness for this issue. Racism occurs when a certain race is discriminated and hated against. One day or another, one will face racism and although the reasons may be different, the outcomes are the same. It will either destroy one’s self-esteem or create separation in a community. This issue is presented in To Kill A Mockingbird by the main character, Scout, as she observes the people of Maycomb racially discriminate against an innocent African American man by accusing him for sexually abusing a white woman.…

The 1998 movie American History X is reputed as one of the most effective films in terms of tackling racism, condemning neo-Nazism, and supporting equality and justice. The way racism, one of the most significant residues of post colonialism is depicted is by showing it explicitly on the film numerous times in numerous different ways, such as switching back and forth from black and white to color, to depict the different stages in Derek's life; symbolizing his time as a racist and as a reformed man. In other words, it takes racism to make a point against racism. American History X, written by David Mckenna and directed by Tony Kaye, tells the story of two white brother Derek and Danny Vineyard who at different points in life shared the…
