Racism In The Film: Remember The Titans

Racism is a prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Racism has been a standing issue for a very long time, mainly between black and white. The movie Remember the Titans is a great example of this behavior. The Titans football team encounters several racism types. Many of these types are common around the Unites States today. These types include disclosed racism, undisclosed racism, and violent racism. To begin, disclosed racism is something that is not vocal or violent. This racism is hidden and almost natural. An example of this back in the 1960’s would be white and black bathrooms. Lastly, violent racism is the most extreme version of racism. This type was more common in the 20th century, but is still relevant in today’s culture. In the 19th and 20th centuries, this was portrayed by lynching or burning by once race, mainly white on black. Today, this is fighting, yelling, or murdering over the color of your skin. This can be anything from yelling a racial slur from your car window, to murdering your neighbor because they’re in a rival gang. From the least extreme to the most extreme, these are all types of violent racism found today. An example of this racism in Remember the Titans is when a brick was thrown through the coach’s window in his house. This was a violent act, intending to do damage to that person. Usually this type of racism involves retaliation, which us why it is an on-going deal. Extreme violent racism rarely exsists, but the yelling or fighting over race still relevant in the world we live in. Racism comes in several different forms in today’s world. Remember the Titans is an outstanding movie to use when talking about racism. There were examples of disclosed, undisclosed, and violent versions of racism. Racism is still very active, but
