The 60’s was when the blacks strongly started protesting segregation. One of the major events that happened to affect racism during that time was when the Voting Rights Act was passed to allow blacks to vote too. This not only helped blacks, but everyone, gain equal rights in America. Another major event in the 60’s was Martin Luther King Jr. being assassinated, one of the most influential people to protest racism. In the 1970’s it wasn’t much different, they just worked on achieving all the things they planned in the 60’s. Also, the group The Black Panthers was created to protest segregation but later put to a stop due to the FBI.
Racism is still around today, we just aren’t as open about it as we used to be. Many people don’t consider it a problem, but it still is. Most people still see different races as good at different jobs or at least different than their race. Whether we admit it or not, we still all see each race as different than ours whether we consider them equal, superior, or inferior. We also have moved past segregation in America. We have made many improvements since the early 1900’s, but sadly it is still around and should continue to
