Wherever you seem to go, shirts and signs that state black lives matter are being displayed. Several communities are protesting and rioting in different cities due to the police shootings that are happening among the black community. This situation is a sensitive topic to many people which is becoming a controversial debate. Colin Kaepernicks of the San Francisco 49ers was the first player not to stand during the National Anthem. President Obama wanted the people of this country to understand that standing up for the

negative attention all the time. You never rarely hear about positive stories on the news. Lately

racism has been an issues all over the country, so it’s more likely that the news will focus on a

The Media has obsessed over his story. Kaepernick stated to NFL media, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” Kapernick used his first amendment right to bring light to the issue of inequality, and he used media to spread that message. Singing and representing their country, is how Americans show their pride to their roots and to not do so, is astonishing. For example, Carole Isham, the great, great, great granddaughter of Francis Scott Key, recently stated, "It just blows my mind that somebody like (Kaepernick) would do what he does to dishonor the flag of this country and the national anthem when we have young men and women overseas fighting for this country, people that have died for this country” (Refusing to Stand for the National Anthem). Above all, even if players think they have reasons why not to stand, there are kids, families, and adults all over the world watching them show. Soldiers put in everyday of their lives to fight for our country, and the least the players could do is stand up and show allegiance to the U.S. In addition, presenting faithfulness is one of the most important things to teach and present.…

From newspaper to broadcast, the format of how news circulates has lead many to question if the information published in the daily newspaper is the same information televised on network stations. To what extent does having an anchor read the news changed how the message is perceived as opposed to reading the article yourself? Is this change better or worse for the modern-day society?…

In Kelly Michugh-Stewart’s article, “My Father Died in Afghanistan, and I Support Colin Kaepernick,” minor instances of the National Anthem being disrespected in the N.F.L. and an individual’s ways of exercising their rights are expressed. Michugh-Stewart’s piece puts her own personal experiences at N.F.L. games as examples of when the National Anthem was carelessly disrespected without a reason. The piece argues that these acts of disrespect are much worse than current N.F.L. athlete, Colin Kaepernick, disrespecting the flag for a reason. Also, she points out that it is nobody’s place to tell any individual, besides themselves, how to exercise their rights, specifically how one chooses to protest for a certain cause. By pointing this out…

His protest has resulted in disapproval from people in his community who0 believe that kneeling for the National Anthem is selfish. The national anthem is an opportunity to be thankful for what you have, and standing shows respect for you, your teammates, your country, and your game (Russell).…
