When it said “Rape and sexual abuse are rampant……” means that the amount of rape and sexual abuse is out of control. Also, under some circumstances, prisoners are isolated and condemned to solitary confinement controlled by the United Nations. The local news is always saying how the current justice system is being improved, but yet I see no improvement. In the article “Mass incarceration is a horrible failure” by David Soares, he mentioned how they made a prison alternative which has proven to be really helpful, for example, “Diversion programs, which identify effective alternatives to imprisonment for some people, have a strong track record of success around the country.” This conveys that the new alternative to imprisonment has been successful with proof to show for it. Upon release, 75% of inmates are either returned to jail or dead, so why can’t the current justice system use some improvement. For people who have committed crimes, the consequences for crimes committed have been effective in the outcome. If the Justice system is considering changing the policy, whose to say that crime won’t increase, for example, “There is no question that crime rates will increase if sentencing reform provides large numbers of criminals with early release from prison and requires shorter sentences when they re-offend.” This conveys, if the sentencing policy changed, that doesn’t mean the crime rate will decrease. It just means criminals will probably get less time than they really deserve.
