I agree with him when he states that black men are viewed as a negative influence on the society. They are often to be known as a harmful human being when they are not trying to be harmful. For example, Staples states, ”After a few quick glimpses, she picked up her pace and soon running in the earnest. Within seconds she disappeared into a cross street.” The only reason that the lady picked up her pace was that she thought he was going to harm her. I can relate to the situation. When I first moved to Ohio after school, I was walking home on a typical day. The white lady who came to pick up her son that attended the same school as I dropped her purse on the ground. This other student from my school saw it, picked up the purse, and started going after her. I sat back there and watched the lady walk faster and faster while the boy was trying to get her the purse back. She kept walking fast. When he ran up to her, she got scared and pulled her son closer to her. In the end, all he did was give her her purse back. She had a guilty look on her face and kept walking. We often judge one without knowing what their action will be like. We seem to assume a person's quality depending on racial future. This is what one needs to work on, by not making a judgment about someone quickly without knowing what he or she is truly trying to
