Racism In America

Nowadays, many consider racism and prejudice a thing of the past, and people whine about discrimination to compensate for their personal flaws. Simply because it is less overt, racism has not yet vanished from our society. Like a viper, it hides in the darkest corners of society. However, it is not like the venomous coral snake, boldly announcing its presence, similar to racism before the civil rights act. Now it is like a water moccasin snake, camouflaging itself along muddy riverbanks and putrid cesspools.

Being one nation has been difficult, particularly in current events, but America has not been rent asunder by other catastrophic events in the past, and we will not allow dichotomy to force us to choose between two choices that we know are wrong. Being nonviolent and showing peace demonstrates maturity and strength. Being under God signifies that we allow God to work in our lives. While some argue that God is irrelevant to today’s society, both God and institutionalized religion are still relevant today, because they are capable of answering questions that science cannot answer. While some claim that science is swiftly eliminating the need for religion because of research into the matter of life and the secrets of the universe, science cannot, by its empirical nature, answer the mysteries of why life exists or how to behave. Religion is unable to speak as eloquently as science regarding how phenomena work, and science alone cannot explain miracles. We could all add one move to the dance as we go around in a circle, and then all of the participants would be much closer to one another and would become friends. They also might share some their own experiences with discrimination and systemic injustice to better foster trust amongst each other. Then we might present the dance to an audience in the Marinello Theater to show mutual respect and cooperation, finally culminating in a question and answer session when each of the participants answers questions regarding their experience in discrimination and racism. Only by having open discussion and mutual cooperation can we eliminate racism and discrimination in order to become a society which offers liberty and justice for all people. I also think that racism can best be diminished by working in small groups and by giving each participant the courage to speak out against discrimination. In this manner, individuals gain the courage to discuss injustice with their
