Racism Closing Speech

If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where I was born, when I started running, and what I did before that, I don’t feel much like going into it though. In the first place running is a sore subject to talk about, and honestly anyone who has ever raced 5 kilometers doesn’t want to read about it. Don’t get me wrong, I love running, I really do, but it is also one of the worst things you could do. Besides i’m not going to talk you through every race i’ve ever run, I don’t remember half of them. I will just tell you about this cross country season as a whole. I mean I don’t go around telling everyone about my races, just the people who ask, and that’s few enough. Anyways this weekend the finals

The article centres around Stan Grant’s debate during the IQ2 debate series held by the Ethics Centre in Sydney. The Indigenous journalist delivered an impactful and bold viral speech about the topic, "Racism is destroying the Australian Dream” sending ripples across the globe. One of the main points highlighted in the article is that the widespread racism in Australia is shattering the Australian dream. This is supported by the incident in which Adam Goodes, a prominent Indigenous Australian rules footballer was booed on the pitch and told that “he wasn’t Australian”. At that moment, Stan Grant claims to have heard the howl of the Australian Dream, telling the Indigenous people that they were not welcome in Australia, a land they called home.…

In “The meaning of King Holiday” Dr. King’s wife, says that MLK day should be a day of service. “What she means by that is how can others others serve after graduating and entering the “adult” world?” Well like MLK he didn't know what to do with his life after graduating and yet after his lifetime all races have equal rights. I am not saying everyone within their lifetime will make that huge of a change in the world. Even doing the little stuff will help change the world in some sort of way.…

Today I will be sharing with you my thoughts on the famous MLK Jr. quote “ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I will also be telling you how this quote has changed the way we look at race so much in the past century. This dream that MLK Jr. had was so idealistic and revolutionary that it helped change the way that many people look at race in the world today. In “Public Response to Racist Speech: Considering The Victim’s Story” Mari J. Matsuda addresses the topic of hate speech, and the legal rights surrounding it. She argues for the implementation of legal restrictions on hate speech. She makes the theoretical arguments that hate speech can be a causative factor for legitimate harm to individuals; she justifies the need for restrictions on hate speech by citing the various harm that can be conducted by individual that possess such speech. The different fall sports had been presented, and as far as I knew, I had no plans whatsoever of participating in any sports—well, except for soccer which was a winter sport. As everyone dispersed to the different sections in the pavilion where each coach of the fall sports stood, I found myself sitting with others whose decision was like mine—not to play a sport. That changed when I heard one of my current best friends, Corinne, rushing down the bleacher stairs and begging me to go with her to the cross country meeting. I thought to myself, “hah, running long distance? yeah right,”…

    Midterm Speech On Racism

For my midterm speech, I plan to argue my stance on racism, more specifically how I believe some of the black culture may unintentionally perpetuate racial inequality. The solution I will propose to this solution is not making the assumption that all blacks want to be associated with these racial stereotypes. I also want to propose the idea that blacks are guilty for these social norms, as are other races. This solution will hopefully lead towards acceptance on all sides of the racial spectrum. I am very interested in this topic because I believe it is one of the biggest issues we face in our society today and is addressed through many different sources.…

Ever since I was in the 6th grade, I have always wanted to run. One of my best friends in middle school, Ty Gleason, was a year older than me, and I always saw his personal best times posted on his locker at school. This made me very eager to start cross country in the fall of my seventh grade year. From then on, I fell in love with the sport of running, and I was…

Mrs. Abbott walked home from town with the newspaper tucked under her arm. She had just had to pay an extra tax to purchase it. A new tax that the British had put on several items, including newspapers, legal documents and even playing cards had been causing a commotion in the town. This was a problem that had just occurred and made everyone in the colonies furious. It wasn’t even the extra money that she had to pay that bothered her, it was the fact that England had not gotten approval from the colonial legislatures to levy the tax.…

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am here today to present to you the H.R.3934 - No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2017 that was introduced to the house of representatives on October 3, 2017 by the California Republican Representative Dana Rohrabacher so that illegal immigrants would not be supplied with social security for any reason until their status has been declared that of a legal immigrant. Officially stating,” To amend title II of the Social Security Act to exclude from creditable wages and self-employment income wages earned for services by aliens illegally performed in the United States and self-employment income derived from a trade or business illegally conducted in the United States.” As from what I’ve researched, illegal immigrants or undocumented workers can often obtain…

I finished second to last in thirty minutes. In one short cross country season, my coach inspired me to keep at it, and work hard. I ended the season 35 pounds lighter, 14 minutes faster, and for the first time so proud of my accomplishments that the sting of the auditorium experience almost faded. Mr. Pinkerton said by mid-October he saw my face for the first time because I always looked down. I was motivated to succeed because the words of a bully stung so deeply in my sole.…

In his speech “Impasse on Race Relations,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached nonviolence and peaceful protest to a group of Canadian college students. His arguments, although clear and logical, are now outdated. Black Americans and white people no longer “collaborate for human dignity.” Dr. Martin Luther King was a very wise man. I, along with anyone, could tell that he was intelligent as I read this speech.…

Inductive coding as described by Thomas (2006) was used to analyze the lecture on racism and antiracism. Thomas (2006) described five steps when using inductive coding with initial reading and reading as the first steps. While reading I was taking notes about my first impression and observations about the text. After the initial reading with note taking, I read through the text again to either confirm, refute and or add more information from my first reading as suggested by Sánchez-algarra and Anguera (2013). The initial reading generated the themes like: ethnocentric monoculturalism, racism and antiracism, emotional reactions/ responses to racism, perceptions and experiences with racism, power, policies and racism.…

The Black Lives Matter movement is more than a call to action for police brutality, it’s a call for justice to stop the racial inequality that can still be seen today. It all started in 2013 when three women, Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza, created the hashtag #blacklivesmatter after Trayvon Martin was placed on trial for his own murder while George Zimmerman, the man who killed him, was not held accountable (Black Lives). Many people were angered by this, so with the help of cultural workers, artists, and designers, the movement was able to expand beyond a social media hashtag to what you see today, a full fledged civil rights movement (Black Lives). The movement grew even larger in 2014 after Michael Brown, a black, unarmed…
