This paper will explore the causes of racism and will particularly focus on the effects of the culture surrounding it, and the extensive and dramatic history behind it. Partnered with this, it will also focus on the history of racism in regards to slavery, segregation, and the infamous civil rights movement, and how they all play a distinct role in modern day racism, and the desensitivity that now surrounds racism.

This is mainly because society as a whole has become desensitized towards these events. The cultural upbring of younger people are surrounded by parents who affect them with their upbringing, following the social chain of, if the upbringing is positive the child will also produce good values, but if it is negative the child will produce bad values and therefore implement these bad values onto other people("What 's Behind The Resurgence of Racism In America?: EBSCOhost," n.d.). An example of this is, as a black teenager, parents tell their kids that they will have to work extra hard and be extra careful just because of the stigma that is still blatant in society("What 's Behind The Resurgence of Racism In America?: EBSCOhost," n.d.). On the other hand, if a white teenager is being told that black people are bad and their parents are still implementing racist values on them, they will breed more racists therefore continuing the system of racism and racial inequality. Aristotle a famous Greek philosopher states that “your upbringing determines who you are”("Aristotle," n.d.) showing that it is indeed the values that are carried onto generations that create a positive or negative society, and it is also up to the person itself to be a deviant away from societal conforms and create their own path.
