Some amount to not much but others result in fires, fights, deaths and other destruction like the 1992 Los Angeles Riots for example. Racism also has negative effects on society, people 's health and well-being, “[r]acism as a stressor may produce negative biological or psychological responses” (Prachter). It affects people in society making them feel unwanted, left out and out of place when it comes to being out in public or at public events. For example, in What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?, Frederick Douglass says, “I am not included within the pale of this glorious anniversary”, stating how he did not feel he fit in or belonged there in 1852 during the American Independence Day (Douglass). However, this was said during the time of slavery that does not mean it still does not happen in time now. It is common for this to be felt in children in schools, especially in larger ones, but also for some adults in gatherings or special events. Slavery has been abolished since 1865, so it probably is not as common happening on Independence Day like Frederick Douglass felt in 1852, but it most definitely still occurs.
