Stereotypes have played a very decisive role in our society. They have been brought up by multiple crucial factors that started this plague from the dawn of times which is Racism and Discrimination. People often wonder on how this could have been brought up in our society. Racism has been stemmed down due to race, color, religion, genetics, sexual orientation, work force, and gender. On an episode, of 20/20 they have depicted on how Stereotypes affect a person’s ability to complete a task, why some people are racist and Stereotype others. This key example of a stereotype personally made me snarl the most at because most American “Used” to feel this way. But in recent years, it has come out through the media that gay men are not all just found in fashion, but are found in all sorts of occupations such as: Welding, teaching, acting, mechanics, engineers, coders, and doctors. It has been proven through society and living out in the real world that many gay couples are just not found in fashion but in all sorts of occupations and sports. Thirdly, some ideas of stereotypes that I found out shocking was the study the teacher did made her students by telling them that one group of kids are better than the other and reversing the roles to see how that affected them. This study shocked me the most because I personally always felt that words could never really affect a person’s mind. It does not matter if you agree or disagree with it it’s going to always be there because of Racism and Discrimination. I personally fell to this by judging and stereotyping someone else’s character and ability of being smart based on the race he was brought up with. Four years ago I was a freshman at Joliet West High School. I was in my Algebra 1 class when I came across an African American classmate that I sat next with. My first instinct that I placed on him was that he was probably going to fail this class or get a poor grade just because I thought he was an African American and African American’s don’t do well in school. Now keep in mind, I was not racist or anything, it was just a stereotype that was placed in my head and believed in. After, making that poor judgment against my classmate I was quickly slammed to the floor with that idea because after approaching and talking with this classmate. I found out he skipped two grade levels of schooling based on because he exceeded standers of states’ scores and knowledge of the material. To sum it up, it made realize how poor it can come to quickly judge and stereotype someone when it’s not even true and it made me feel like hell for believing in this false idea just based on his ethnicity of a stereotype. This shows everyone has judged or stereotype another individual or a group it is compiled in our physiology and our culture within
