The movie windtalkers was in reference to World War II. This movie is about Navajo Indians that were fighting against Japanese troops during the war. There were a lot of racial discrimination and racial prejudice despite all the good contributions the American Indians made for the Unites States of America. One of the soldiers in the movie seemed to prejudice. The Navajo Indians used a special code to send messages back and forth to each other.…
I agree with the point you made, we can't create a scapegoat white people for the reason black people aren't being recognized for their roles in movies. There is an actual problem with the Hollywood industry. Dave Chappelle said in this video that some male black actors are given roles where they have to dress up as women. They aren't given the main role or cast in many dramatic movies. This is a tricky issue because we can't get upset at people for what movie they like better.…
Fried Green Tomatoes is both a film and book written by Fannie Flagg, which takes place in Whistle Stop, Alabama. Whistle Stop is a small community and everyone is involved in each other’s business. It tells the story of four women in two different eras and the trials and tribulations of their life. Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison originally met when Jamison dated Idgie Threadgoodes brother, Buddy Threadgoode. Buddy Threadgoode died after being involved in a train accident, both Idgie Threadgoode and Jamison witnessed his death.…
The other Wes Moore is a non fiction chronicling life of two African American boys whose life took a ridiculous degree of divergence. It presents story of two boys from low-income family with similar background, where one turns out to be a Rhodes scholar, while the other ends up in prison for armed robbery and murder. Writer does not pretend to know why this happened nor holds the belief that a single event was catabolic in creating this chain reaction. The story is mostly descriptive, and writer presents the story as it is, leaving the readers to draw on their own conclusion. The author Wes Moore, and the other Wes Moore both grew up in Baltimore, without a father.…
Ruby Bridges broke through the barriers of racism in an all white school. At the age of six, Ruby was chosen to take a series of tests to see if she qualified to attend an all white school. Ruby was the first African American to attend an all white school. On Ruby’s first day, there were mobs of chaos and parents there to remove their children, but Ruby was brave through it all. Because of Ruby’s courage, books have been written and paintings were painted such as “The Problem We All Live Within” by Norman Rockwell.…
West Side Story is a romantic musical film, that is compared to a ‘ Romeo and Juliet’ story. The musical explores a wide variety of themes. Some of the main themes include racism, sexism and loyalty. These themes are still relevant today however, they may be different to us. The choreographer uses dance throughout wisely, to help get different points across.…
In today’s society which we call the United States of America there may be many predictions, speculations, and myths that have been thought of when it comes to our history. I have analyzed and did my own research on the history of racism. Racism is the belief of people of each race, who acts as if one is superior to another race. There are several prejudice practices practiced by racial individuals which discriminates against people of other race and due to their skin color. I watched four movies such as Birth of a Nation, Beloved, 13th, and Do the Right Thing which tells us where racism comes from, and how it is has changed over the years.…
I think movies gives us insight into the interface between oppression and violence when there is revenge against males. Culture conflicts and bridging differences through respect and openness. An example of oppression and violence in Gran Torino when Thao’s cousin’s get him from his neck Walt decides to intervene and stands up for what is right. Unfortunately, Walt is not able to stop the four Asian gang-bangers but when they are attacking Sue, Walt is anger.…
Throughout American history, African-Americans have constantly struggled with the issues of racism and discrimination. Since slavery hundreds of years ago, African Americans have always been treated as inferior by white men. Even today, racism continues to be a big problem in American society. Selma, a film directed by Ava DuVernay, retells the events surrounding the march from Selma to Montgomery in Alabama. Led by Martin Luther King Jr., African-Americans along with civil rights activists of various race march to protest African Americans being denied their right to vote.…
The Autobiography of Malcolm X was not only a depiction of Malcolm X’s life but it also presented racial discrimination that he faced. A large portion of the book revealed and described the rigorousness that he and minorities like him faced. Malcolm’s experience of racial discrimination from both races, black and white exhibits the extent to which racism is still ingrained in society. It also displayed that racial discrimination and injustice were not exclusive to just the South but was a nationwide dilemma.…
This scene disrupts the continuity of the film which is mostly long scenes with a jump cut into the montage, which may show how quick people are to jump to conclusions and judge people different from them. The montage shows Mookie insulting Italians, Pino insulting black people, Stevie insulting Koreans, Sonny insulting Jews, and Officer Long insulting Puerto Ricans. This scene also breaks the fourth wall in that each character was looking directly into the camera. This setup was effective because it makes the viewers reflect on their own prejudices and feel a more personal connection to the theme. On another note, what I find interesting is that each character at the end felt rage due to the unjustified death of Radio Raheem and participated in the riot, but these are the same characters that played a role in the racial prejudice inherent in the…
Racial Inequality Throughout the history of the United States, racial inequality continues to be an issue in our society. Most of every race had come a long way from fighting to gain equality. The society today has definitely improved, but there is still racial inequality within today. Racial inequality is imbalance of opportunities and treatments that occur based off someone’s race.…
In addition, they are also experiencing class struggles. America is a country, which is made up of immigrants. If there weren’t a great number of people from all over the world move to the US, there wouldn’t be a multicultural and diversified America now. Nevertheless, the differences among cultures cause plenty of conflicts like racism. Those characters in the movie “crash” each other not only because of racism, but also because of the different social class they are in.…
"Racism is a grown-up disease, and we must stop using our children to spread it" (Ruby Bridges). Ruby Bridges was a prime example of that quote, when she attended the all-white school. Therefore, she wrote it. Ruby Bridges created a world with all races of children learning together, used her sheer will of persistence to overcome the hatred of at least 100 racist white grown men and women; as well as laid the foundation of the civil rights movement.…
In Gran Torino, there are many occasions that the Hmong community experience in the Michigan. Gang activity and violence is one the major conflicts that the Hmong community experience. The Hmong gang harasses and promotes violence and theft towards the community. The Hmong also experience an absence of masculine figures. The absence of masculine figures contributes to the Hmong community being helpless and juvenile.…
