Introduction
Racism is one of the world’s major issues today. Many people are not aware of how much racism still exists in our stores, jobs, communities and anywhere where social lives are occurring. It good that racism is not as bad as it was in the past but it sure has not gone away. Discrimination is one of the first forms of racism which leads to racial stereotypes. One stereotype is that African Americans are criminals and that they like to steal from Retail stores. As a result, they are profiled unfairly. A stereotype is when a small minority represents the larger majority. So just because some Minorities steal doesn’t mean that all black do. All of the employees and customers couldn’t stop staring because I’m black. The location of this Walmart played a huge role because it was located in a farming town where the majority of citizens are white farmers. I walk around from the food department to the school supply department. In the school supply department is where I ran into a Walmart employee. He did not say anything to me to I asked him “what calculators are on sell”. He pointed me into the right direction then asked if I was visiting someone in the area. I told him no. This Walmart employee followed me from the School supply aisle all the way to the electronics area. He kept staring and glaring at me like I was up to something because I kept walking around pushing a cart with nothing in it and carrying a big black book bags full of Books and homework. When I got over to the electronics The 1st Walmart employee stopped following me only because he warned his coworker I was approaching that area and to look after him. I couldn’t find the exact charger that I wanted so I asked for help. I told the woman that I needed a sixty dollar Dell Computer charger. She directed me right to the charger I need. She also showed me some of the lower priced chargers which were capable of charging my
